Dear Colleagues and Workshop Participants,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all attendees of the 2027 International Meridian Circle Program (IMCP) Workshop, themed "Monitoring Geospace Disturbances from the Ground: Scientific Challenges, Observational Networks, and International Collaboration", scheduled to take place at the IMCP Headquarters in Huairou District, Beijing, China, from 1st to 5th March 2027.
This workshop is expected to be the first event of the IMCP implementation phase, marking an important scientific milestone in the development of the program. As co-chairs of the Organizing Committee, we are excited to bring the global space weather community together to advocate for the unique contributions of ground-based observations to space weather research and monitoring, and to emphasize the importance of global and regional collaboration in advancing our understanding of geospace.
A central goal of the workshop is to review and discuss international contributions to the design and implementation of the four IMCP "Pillars": scientific discoveries and objectives, instruments and networks, data and AI, and international cooperation projects and activities. The workshop also aims to highlight the unique value of ground-based observations in addressing the broad challenge of monitoring and understanding geospace at both global and regional scales, and to foster scientific synergies and coordinated observations between space platforms and ground-based assets.
The scientific program will cover a broad spectrum of fundamental processes that intricately shape the variability of our space environment, including solar and geomagnetic activity, geospace disturbances, atmospheric weather and climate, geomagnetic field variations, and solid-Earth hazards.
We look forward to your active participation and stimulating contributions to progress in global geospace science and monitoring, and to the pleasure of welcoming you to Beijing in March 2027!
